We have some fabulous news!
Options is really excited to be teaming up with Wirral Mencap and Wirral Evolutions, two other local disability organisations, to deliver One Wirral 2017. This will be an inclusive community festival in Birkenhead Park this summer.
Having jointly secured £10,000 from the Big Lottery to hold the festival, it will be a fantastic event for the whole community, celebrating the diversity of Wirral and all that the peninsula has to offer.
The festival will bring together community groups from across the borough to showcase talents and activities such as dance, drama and music, and will encourage people to find a new hobby or join a new group in their area.
We will be working hard together to make sure the festival reaches all parts of the community and is inclusive to all, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, cultural views, sexuality or disability.
Not only will the festival be a great day out for the whole community, it aims to highlight the achievements and positive contributions made to society by local people with a learning disability.
Each organisation has appointed representatives who will be at the centre of all the planning the festival entails. Jimmy, who we support, is a representative for us at Options.
Jimmy is excited about the festival as well as the planning process, “I think it will be lovely for the community and for all the clubs and groups to come together”.
To help make the festival a big success, we’re on the lookout for people who would like to help out in the months before and anyone who would like to be involved on the day itself!
There’s loads of ways you can get involved…
- Spread the word! Would you be able to pass round leaflets and posters in your local community in the run up to the festival?
- Fundraising! We have been lucky to get some Big Lottery funding to help us with the cost of the festival, but we could make it even better with more. Would you be able to help us raise some of this money?
- Planning! Do you go to a great community club in Wirral – sports/dance/music/craft or anything really! Let us know so we can invite them to get involved and showcase what they do!
If you’re interested in getting involved, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at 0151 236 0855 or email Ali directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
